A school rooted in history—Kokstad stands in the territory which was known in the colonial times as
“no-man’s land” - between KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape. While the debate about the area’s true provincial identity continues to this day, it is probably due to this unique situation that Kokstad has always
harboured a strong sense of independence and resilience.
As knowledge is strength, it is inevitable that hand in hand with this goes a tradition of learning. Few schools in the region have existed for over a century, and
Kokstad Junior School is proud to be a member of this unique group. The original school was developed in 1893. As the school has grown together with the town in strength and stature since then, it forms an integral part of the heritage and future of the community.
A Solid ground—Our foundation phase at
Kokstad Junior School has unmatched facilities and a tremendous amount of emphasis is placed on preparing our “little ones” to face the challenges of life to come. Our class sizes are realistic and each child is regarded as an individual with special needs. Our teachers, with
experience and dedication, take special care with each pupil entrusted to them during these impressionable years. We therefore believe our pupils develop into happy, confident, independent young people with a solid, sound learning base in all areas of the
curriculum.
O ne of the family—Foundation phase pupils
participate in all Kokstad Junior School events, including sporting programmes, assemblies, drama productions and their own year end Presentation Day.
E quipped for success—Kokstad Junior School extends the principle “a healthy body, makes for a healthy mind” to further dimensions. We believe we have reason to be proud of our ever growing libraries, media centre, audio visual equipment and 32 of the most updated computers. Access to the internet under staff supervision, offers a world of knowledge to our pupils’ enquiring minds.
F ield Trips– During the Senior Phase, our pupils are privileged enough to encounter field trips as far as
Durban in Grade 5, Cape Town in Grade 6 and
Environmental Study excursions, throughout Natal in Grade 7. These trips are true highlights for our pupils at K.J.S. enhancing their studies and leaving them with life long memories.
G ood Sports– Kokstad Junior School recognises that life skills
such as team work, co-operation with others and the ability to strive
for success against difficulties, are valuable lessons learnt from the
involvement in sport. We therefore encourage participation to the
best of each pupils ability, regardless of the level at which they
perform .
T he Arts—The arts programme provides pupils with opportunities to
develop a sense of personal and cultural identity, both on the stage and on the canvass, thus equipping them for life-long involvement and
appreciation of the arts.
Bi-annual productions and art exhibitions assist in developing every child’s self confidence. Our weekly drumming lessons for Grade 4 to Grade 7 adds yet another facet to our Arts programme.
ensure our children are equipped an appreciation for music and rhythm
A ctive Parents– Parents play a key role in the success of our school. Their involvement in the school is both actively sought and freely
offered. Standards are constantly maintained and improved upon. It is therefore understandable why Kokstad Junior School has such a great reputation and commands such high respect.

The biggest changes are improved access control (ACL) and nested categories. This release of Joomla has strong continuity with Joomla! 1.7 while adding enhancements.
